Health Hubs

Enhancing and expanding health and wellbeing activities in local parks would benefit local communities. However, this could result in wildlife conservation being given a lower priority.

"Any potential parks charity’s core values need to relate to wildlife. We would not support for example the development of new buildings for any potential health hub. People and wildlife can happily enjoy the parks together. " — Workshop Team Two

"Rather than prioritise one over the other. Conservation activities could form part of health and well-being. We would not want fitness infrastructures, which could be put anywhere in the city (eg. those on the Quayside) but rather an approach that valorise and protect wildlife for our health and wellbeing." — Workshop Team One

Our first responsibility should be to look after the parks so we can enjoy them. Not the other way around

As per the post below, why is the question above one or the the other. Conservation and well-being are very much intertwined. Parks increase people's well-being because they are close to nature, if there is no nature then they will not experience the same level of well-being. It is exactly this kind of ill thought idea that makes me apprehensive about the whole quality of this proposal. "We were told well-being was people's priority" "Okay, might as well scrap a bio-diversity plan based on the 14 people that answered that question."

"At the top of the agenda there should be the unique nature of each park wildlife. New health infrastructures would need to be mindful and carefully planned as well as appropriate to the particularities of each park. In any case, parks should remain free and available to everyone to use." —Workshop Team 4

I don't see that expanding heath and well-being activities in parks will necessarily have a negative impact on wildlife if it is handled properly. Health and well-being are important for many people and where better to encourage such activities than in the open air. I think that most parks are big enough to allow such activities to not impinge on the wildlife.

"Depending on the activities but we shouldn’t compromise on wildlife.
Activities should be tailored to parks as some park will be more suitable for certain activities than others. If a place is nice, people will want to visit anyway whether there is an organised activity or not. Wildlife should be a priority." — Workshop Team

I think you could enable parks to support both well-being and conservation.
