Board of Directors

A Parks Charitable Trust will have to concern itself with bringing income to the park as well as supporting community ownership and involvement. Both are very important, but a Parks Charitable Trust will at times have to prioritise one over the other.

When the question talks about income what range of options is on the table? Does it include (for example) leasing park lands? Or rents (mentioned below)? Or opening up the parks to commercial events? And so on. Income decisions which produce once-off windfalls for the parks and income paid regularly over several years might be judged very differently in a community vs income question.

Unfortunately money, or the lack of it is driving this whole initiative. For this to work it has to be driven towards generating income. It's all well and good saying taxes should pay for this blah blah blah, but we're never going to get money from Westminister for NE parks. Business minds need to take the lead in this initiative who liaise with the public. Volunteers can't take the lead on this project it needs a paid leadership position.

Again, why is the question above not the same as the question posted on twitter below. Standardise your questions! When it comes to data analysis you are going to be skewing this information all over the place because you've not asked the same question in the different data collection tools.

Governance is VERY important. Trustees should be drawn from a wide diverse pool of stakeholders. They should have Appropriate experience/expertise (e.g. charity experience, accountancy, parks experience). The board could be very large.-- Workshop Team 2

"They must prioritise income over supporting the community as without income they cannot support the community. They should not sell any property and any income from rent should go back to the parks. For example, the sale of Jesmond Dene Nursery should be re-invested in our parks." — Workshop Participant

My worry is that the trust will not be able to generate sufficient income to be self-sustaining. Therefore I would support any means of generating income that do not impact in a major detrimental way on the parks. If the trust does not generate income to look after the parks the community aspect will suffer anyway.
