Including allotments in a Parks Charitable Trust could bring expertise and skills into the charity and provide the opportunity for additional health and wellbeing activities. This could benefit both the charity and allotment holders in many ways, but it could mean other changes to how allotments are managed and run.
In Newcastle there are approximately 51 hectares dedicated to allotments. There are 62 self-managed allotment associations, 42 individual plots, one parish council allotment association, and three sites managed by the Freemen. The council manages a number of allotment sites within the 62 self-managed associations, on the Town Moor, under an agreement with the Freemen.
